Paul McCabe is an artist and project photographer based in Belfast. McCabe has worked closely with Belfast Exposed Photography Gallery for four years and produced various photography projects. In his latest project “A Door a Picture Frame and the Number 52”, McCabe uses his work to promote the use of photography in recovery from trauma and aims to explore the complex relationship between mental health and photography. Through his work he seeks to raise awareness of mental health issues and challenge the stigma surrounding them, McCabe presented his work at the first Healing through photography conference in Belfast and exhibited at Belfast Exposed photography gallery in 2023. His work features abstract and surreal imagery using symbolism, natural light and shadow to create a sense of depth and emotion, his compositions are carefully crafted to convey a sense of isolation, anxiety, and vulnerability, while also conveying hope, resilience and empowerment. McCabe believes that photography can improve personal reflection and help with social skills, in turn giving a sense of purpose and sparking up discussions about recovery. McCabe is committed to using his work to promote the use of the arts in treating people in recovery from Trauma.

Overall, McCabe’s artistic practice is driven by a deep sense of empathy and a desire to make a positive impact on the World and his goal is to find the light in the darkest of places.
